Differences between windows and linux web hosting

I read the whole web about the differences between linux and windows web hosting , but didnot find them interesting on the basis of the way of presentation….Lets try to learn about this subject in a newer way

Cost : Linux<
Linux is an open source system and is therefore more cost-effective to operate and maintain than Windows

windows web hosting

Support of software: wide range of software, applications, languages, and databases such as PHP, Perl, PostGre, MySQL, PostgreSQL in Linux
Windows servers  offer web developers the use of Microsoft's programming environments such as Active Server Pages (ASP), Visual Basic Scripts, MS Index Server.
Both Windows and Linux offer FTP access to your files, but only Linux will generally offer telnet or ssh access
linux web hosting, cpanel, hosting panel, phpBB, oscommerce

Both Windows and Linux servers will serve HTML pages and JavaScript. Typically, Windows servers use files named *.htm while Linux servers use files named *.html
CGI and Perl access are often found on both Windows and Linux servers, but it is more typical on Linux.
PHP is more often found on Linux systems, while ASP is more often found on Windows.
Microsoft developed and owns the Windows operating system. Linux is open source and generally free.

Some people naturally assume that because their PC runs Windows they need to buy a Windows hosting package. This isn't true. Access to your web account will most likely be through FTP or a control panel and both servers support these methods
In terms of performance there's not a huge difference between the two servers.

windows vs linux hosting
Linux reportedly performs faster because Windows (as usual) attempts to offer an 'all in one' package instead of the extendable Linux implementation.
